Nobody calls me that

Or the gangster of love for that matter. I don’t think I’d mind if people called me Maurice?

Some people call me by my other illustration name (Ant Creations), and some people call me by my actual name (Nathan Shelton), and the most important people in my life call me daddy (that’ll be my two kids!).

Who is me?…

A picture of me

I’ve been a professional illustrator for a long time, but now I am also officially a children’s book illustrator. I’m hoping to add ‘author’ to my resume soon as I have actually written my first children’s book that’s currently in the process of moving through the necessary stages.

Here’s my resume:

  • Not much for the first 18 years.

  • Early 90’s - Worked at Kwik Save for a while. Duties included: Rotating tins of beans, hiding, and shutting colleagues in the big freezer.

  • From the year 2000 until now - Drawing pictures and stuff.

I need a hair cut. I don’t normally look this happy.

More about me

I’m now quite a bit over 40. I’m married. We have two kids.

I like drinking tea to start the day, and coffee later.

I am Welsh.

I would one day like to start a Gummy Bear empire.

My story as an illustrator and author

What’s the story?…

I’ve been scribbling down random children’s book ideas for a long time. This is my first attempt to take those scribblings and do something with them.

I’ve chosen one of my ideas and started developing it into something. Whether it’ll be something ‘good’, I don’t know? I’d like it to be really good, but surely everyone begins with that plan. Can’t imagine anybody thinking “I’m going to write the most underwhelming book possible!”

I’m documenting this journey in an attempt to motivate, encourage and inspire (mainly to motivate me).

My illustrations

Did I mention I’m an illustrator?

I’m not sure if that means I have half the battle won? Perhaps the writing bit is much harder than the drawing bit? I suppose it depends whether you’re any good at either thing.

Luckily, I’m alright at drawing funny things. So, I figure I’m in a much stronger position than somebody who can’t write or draw!

Here are some examples of my vector illustrations…
